the NEW JodyJazz HR*
Hard Rubber Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece

The JodyJazz HR* Tenor Mouthpiece is here!

Early Praise for The New HR* Tenor Mouthpiece:

"Jody's mouthpiece is the first mouthpiece I've played that's the perfect match for my 10* Hard Rubber Otto Link mouthpiece with the Rico Jazz Select Reed # 4 Hard. Great mouthpiece; you all need to buy one, now!"
George Garzone
(Note: The HR* 10* is a special order; please contact Jody to order one)

"When Jody came out with his new Hard Rubber Series I knew I had to jump on it. It's a great tenor sax mouthpiece. It's just amazing. My previous hard rubber mouthpiece ( which was refaced by one of the best in the business) is in the drawer. Jody, you're a genius. You set a barometer for the mouthpiece world. I absolutely love my JodyJazz ESP Tenor mouthpiece but when I want that hard rubber sound and feel the HR* is perfect. "

"Hi, Jody. Your new pieces arrived yesterday. I tried the 8* first on my SX-90R tenor. It fit PERFECTLY on the cork -- slid easily to the two little dots, then snugged. A Rovner 2R lig fits it like a glove. From the first note, I was nodding my head so hard, it was tough to keep the piece in my mouth. My wife came rushing into the room and asked, "What's that?" It blows effortlessly from Bb to F#. The bottom end is huge times seven, and the top has no thinness whatsoever. Talk about a ballad piece!! This is exactly the sound I was looking for, yet didn't know how to describe. We live way back in the woods on WA's Olympic Peninsula, and I went out on our deck and played to the trees. Big, fat, lush tenor sound reverberating from the towering Douglas-firs and all through our valley. Wow! My wife loves the piece and insisted I write you. You are the man, Jody, and I sincerely thank you. "
Peace,

"...all I have to say is WOW. It's too bad; what am I gonna' do with my other mouthpieces ? ... The Jody Jazz HR* is far more easier, and I found it also way more flexible, it has a rich thick sound. And it can whisper with a soft warm sound, and scream, and everything in the middle, I'm still amazed ! How did you achieve that ? it is sooo good ! One thing for sure, changing the reed does change the sound on your mouthpiece, but it is so reed friendly it will be difficult to find the best ones !

The New JodyJazz HR* Hard Rubber Tenor Sax Mouthpiece

JodyJazz HR* (pronounced HR Star) - Vintage Jazz Sound. It has the look, feel and even the smell of Vintage Hard Rubber.

The HR* is a hard rubber saxophone mouthpiece aimed at professionals and students looking for a traditional versatile mouthpiece. High quality control standards, a beautiful warm sound and a nice free blowing feel make these new mouthpieces amazing players. We feel that this mouthpiece can stand up to any hard rubber saxophone mouthpiece on the market.

I get these blanks from a source in Germany and the Hard Rubber has the look, feel and sound of Vintage hard Rubber sax mouthpieces that make the most sought after mouthpieces. The mouthpieces are faced on a special facing machine and then hand finished.

The Tenor sax model is aimed directly at the Otto Link Tenor sax mouthpiece. The sound is very similar to an Otto Link but with a little more projection and brightness and a more free blowing less resistant feel. The Chamber is round and smooth like the Link.

Questions and answers about the HR* sax mouthpiece.

Q. How would the new HR* compare to the JodyJazz #7 Classic I have for alto? Is it more like the New York USA Vintage Meyers?
A. The HR* is like the Meyer in that classic Jazz alto sound. I think that JodyJazz Classic can be more funky in a Maceo Parker way and with the spoiler in the classic you can get more volume but the HR* gets a surprising amount. If you are comfortable with the JJ Classic #7 you are on the border between a HR* 6M and a 7M. I would say to try both.

Q. Will the HR piece have flat table, even rails, etc. -- in other words, the same craftsmanship I've seen in your other pieces?
A. Of course we will maintain our high standards.

Q. Will the sound approximate vintage HR Links?
A. Yes, but the JJ HR* will be more free blowing.

Q. Will the Rovner lig on my JJ Classic fit the HR* piece?
A. No, The JodyJazz Classics have a slimmer profile.

Q. ? If you are willing to sell alto in .085 or .090 then I would be more interested, so tell me if you start doing that.
A. Down the road I probably will, just let me get started with these facings. It's a big thing, starting a whole new mouthpiece line and stocking all of these new pieces. Check in from time to time.

Q. Do you test your mouthpieces after finishing?
A. I am a fanatic about testing. When you get it's been tested by me many times.

Q. I have a Black JodyJazz Classic tenor #12 mouthpiece that plays great!!!! Is the new HR the same size width wise or is it a larger mouth piece like a Myer or Selmer hard rubber? Also will it give me as big of sound as my 12? Will the tone be darker or about the same?
A. The new HR* is a wider more traditional Hard Rubber size. It does get a big sound and it is darker but it has it's own kind of brightness. It's really a sweet and yet gutsy mouthpiece at the same time. I love both the Classic and the HR*. For me it's a hard choice even though they are quite different mouthpieces. Your JJ Classic #12 is a 110 tip opening so I would advise you to try the HR* 7* and the 8* (105 and 115) to find your perfect tip.

Q. Jody: Any plans for a rubber bari mouthpiece?
A. Maybe somewhere down the road, but have you tried all of my bari mouthpieces yet? I have three very distinct models and they cover a lot of ground and each of them is a great bari piece. Click here to see the Baritone Mouthpieces.

Very Important - Use Patches: The HR* has a distinctive satin finish that seems to show up teeth marks as shiny on the mouthpiece. These occur very easily so I strongly recommend that you use a tooth patch so as not to mark up the mouthpiece. If you bite hard you should use two patches.
