the ESP Soprano Gold

The ESP Soprano Gold

The JodyJazz ESP Soprano Gold is a metal soprano saxophone mouthpiece with flawless workmanship. The workmanship is evident in the beautiful thin side and tip rails and hand cut baffles. This metal sax mouthpiece is machined from a solid bar of the finest virgin brass, meaning no seams! The ESP is beautifully plated with the finest 24kt, Hard Gold plating available. A very interesting feature is that the new JodyJazz has a removable baffle with a 24kt Gold plated secondary reed which gives the mouthpiece more brilliance and projection.

The ESP Soprano Gold
The sound, the intonation and the ease of playing are the factors that I believe will make this mouthpiece a classic. This soprano mouthpiece will deliver a round full sound with very good projection.

The ESP Soprano Gold
I'm extremely proud of this soprano sax mouthpiece because it was actually the most difficult ESP yet. I wanted to get the free blowing fullness that the ESP alto and tenor mouthpieces have, with those big, beautiful, easy low notes. The soprano sax is known for being more difficult to play on the very bottom of the horn, but I wanted to change that. We made a total of 26 prototypes, trying to get the right feel and sound. I did extensive research and experimentation on the chamber of this mouthpiece to eliminate the nasal quality associated with many soprano saxophone mouthpieces. Personally, I feel that we accomplished the goals that I set for the mouthpiece, and now I have a soprano sax mouthpiece that has rejuvenated my own soprano playing. My wish is that it will help all who play it, make beautiful music.

Early Reviews of the New JodyJazz ESP Soprano Gold!

"Your new soprano mouthpiece is a knockout and you will not be getting mine back! All the virtues of the tenor ESP apply to the soprano - what a fat sound in the lower and bottom registers! The sound has none of the nasal quality associated with the soprano sax. Well done, Jody, you have done it again!"

"I just bought an ESP soprano mouthpiece from Jody, size .69 and I love it. It is warm, yet very modern sounding (but not in an annoying smooth jazz way!!). The intonation is great also. I haven't played a metal soprano mouthpiece in years since I stopped using my metal Selmer, and I definitely prefer the timbre of the JodyJazz."

"All I can say is: WOW! I think you'll have another hit with that piece. I find for a metal mouthpiece it plays with a very warm sound without the spoiler. Louder and a bit sharper sounding with the spoiler. This piece does not sound shrill at all. The low notes are very full and the highs don't seem to lose much either. The intonation is right on with my horn (Yani SC901)."

"This mouthpiece sings! I wish I would have had your soprano ESP years ago, as it would have saved me a great deal of money on other mouthpieces I've bought. The ESP has great clarity, and blows easily through-out the whole range of the horn. I love the response at the bottom of the horn. The low notes respond quickly and easily. The sound is centered and not too spread. This continues up the horn, as it is full-sounding (not overly dark), and it brings out the best of the soprano (this is without the spoiler). The resistance is even, while my other mouthpieces (about 20) vary greatly. I love being able to run the full range of the horn, low Bb to high F, and back without making an embouchure adjustment.

Jody exhibits great craftsmanship and pride in his products; the side rails are thin and even, there are no rough file or machine markings, and the tip actually fits the reed ( I tried Rico Jazz Select, Alexander Superials, and Fibracell).

Jody is accessible and will work with you, above all he's a player!"
